We're having a heat wave!

Yesterday was beautiful-- the first eighty degree day this year. I went outside and read in the sun for about fifteen minutes... because that's how long it takes for my lily white skin to start getting crispy. After that, I reclined in the shade of the swing on the deck with my SPF 85+... because yes, some of us can get burnt even in the shade. I love the sun, but it doesn't love me. :(

So I started thinking about everything that I'm looking forward to this summer. Here are a few of my favorites (in no particular order):

1) Otter Pops
2) New gloves for weeding (Hey, I like to weed. I know-- I'm weird.)
3) Tomato sandwiches with tomatoes from the garden
4) Mowing the lawn (Again, weird.)
5) Pina Colada Slurpees
6) Watching my nieces play in the sprinklers
7) Corn on the cob
8) Reading Dandelion Wine outside on a blanket... in the shade
9) Kool Aid
10) Going to Wheeler Farm to feed the ducks
11) Capri pants
12) Watermelon
13) Fireworks
14) Homemade ice cream
15) Pedicures and flip flops
16) Barbequing
17) Not losing the daylight until 8:30 or 9:00

I just realized that roughly half of the things on my list are food-related. Oh dear.

I'd love to hear some of the things you look forward to most about summer. :)

Windows open, cool mountain breezes, cooking and eating outside, the sound of lawn mowers, writing out on the porch, NO schedule. Mmmmmm...

I always read Dandelion Wine to start summer... weird quirk I picked up from 10th grade honors English! I like most of the things on your list except weeding... and I only like the smell of mowed lawns... not actually the mowing part!

This year I'm looking forward to NOT spending 2+ months at 110+ degrees. Can I get a Hallelujah, people?!

I love anything pina colada tasting.

I'm looking forward to watching my kids splash in the pool and block parties with the neighbors.

Hi Aubrey! I just finished 'My Fairy Grandmother' and I loved it! I am wondering if there will be a sequel? So I looked you up online and found this blog, I hope I am not completely ignorant to the protocol of this blog by commenting. As I am a random stranger, but you did send me a message on goodreads, for my review of 'Spare Change' so I figure that's sort of like we are friends. Riiiiight...
Ok so as per the current post, my favorite things about summer:
My birthday, yay!
hearing bagpipes in the distance
4th of July parade
Scottish festival
any festival
watching rain from my porch
picnics
hiking
I could go on, but I think you probably think this comment is random enough.

Open windows and breezes up from our wooded valley. The lowing of cows in the nearby meadow. The sticky smelly sweetness of children who've been outdoors all day. Ice cream and raspberry pomegranate sherbet. Mmm...berries and cherries...BBQ's and picnics. Murdering nasty biting bugs with electric bug zapping tennis racket thingys (I'm a brute - what can I say?).
